These are my cheat scallion buns and they are one of the best things I've ever made. You only need two ingredients for the dough and I promise you they’re worth the effort. They’re layered with spring onions, garlic, and mozzarella so they’re super cheesy and full of flavour, you are seriously gonna want to make these!

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • 2-Ingredient Dough - yes, that's right. You only need two ingredients for the dough. Simply grab some self-raising flour and full-fat greek yoghurt, and you'll be on your way!
    • They're DELISH - these were some of the best things I've had in a while. They're fluffy, cheesy, garlicky, and have a crispy bottom which I LOVE.

Ingredients For My Cheat Scallion Buns

As I mentioned above, the dough (which everyone thinks is the hardest part), only requires two ingredients...self-raising flour and greek yoghurt.

For the other elements of this dish, you'll need to slice up some spring onions/scallions, garlic, and get yourself some grated mozzarella.

    Cheat Scallion Buns

So, here's the full list of ingredients for these Cheat Scallion Buns:

    • Self-raising flour
    • Greek yoghurt
    • Olive oil
    • Spring onions/scallions
    • Garlic
    • Grated mozzarella cheese
    • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

How To Make Cheat Scallion Buns: Step By Step

Step 1 - Make The Dough

    How To Make Dough
    • First up, you want to combine your self-raising flour and greek yoghurt in a bowl. Stir in a clockwise motion until a rough dough begins to form.
    • Pour your dough onto a clean surface and knead for a couple of minutes. Cover with cling film and set aside while you prepare your other ingredients.

    Step 2 - Ingredients Prep

    • Prepare your spring onion, garlic and mozzarella and set it aside.

Step 3 - Make Your Buns

    Cheat Scallion Buns
    • Grab your dough and slice it into 4 equal parts.
    • Flour your clean surface and then roll out a piece of dough until it's 0.75cm thick. Fold in the two outer edges to make a thin rectangular strip, and then roll out the dough again in one direction so it's around 0.75cm thick, to make a thin strip of dough. Cut off the top of the strip and the bottom of the strip to make a perfect rectangle.
    • Drizzle with oil on one side and then sprinkle the top half of the strip with scallions, garlic, and cheese. Slice the bottom half of the strip into mini strips to make a nice pattern.

    • Roll up the bun and then repeat for all of the other buns.

Step 4 - Steam & Pan-Fry Your Cheat Scallion Buns

How To Make Cheat Scallion Buns
    • Place each bun on some parchment paper and steam for 15-20 minutes or until fluffy.
    • Optionally, you can now pan-fry them for around 3 minutes on high heat to get a crispy bottom! Enjoy!

Can I substitute self rising flour with regular flour and baking soda/powder? Also is there an alternative to steaming if I don't own a steamer?

Yes, you can substitute the self-raising flour with plain and baking powder! You really want to steam these, as they'll go soggy any other way. A metal or bamboo steamer does the trick! Hope that helps xx
